Still Here...More Procedures

I will give Dan a break and post this myself....

We were glad for the good news on Friday...no rejection and no e-coli. The kidney however has not fully kicked in so the creatnine is still high and the Transplant Team has taken a "wait and see" attitude. (This happens with ATN.) Also the infection is almost all gone which is good because infection is what scares me.

Meanwhile they want to do a couple of minor procedures to protect against infection and help speed up the recovery from ATN. I think he will be in at UNMC another week.

So I have decided to go back to school in Kearney and return to Omaha on the week-end. Then maybe we can have Dan dismissed to cooperative care where I will be the primary caregiver (they do have a nurse on the floor.)

I certainly hate to leave him....but I need to get back to school and he does have a pretty good set-up here. Everyone (and I mean everyone) knows him plus our new friends Ann and Jerry said they would look in on him. (Jerry is also on Clarkson's fifth floor.) Dan has his laptop and a new Dean Koontz book...he even brought his own electric blanket because he is always so cold and his own TV remote because he doesn't like the hospital's remotes. He's also got a private room because of the infection concerns.

So that is the plan...and it is subject to change.

Saturday update.

Finally some good news. The biopsy came back last night and it showed no rejection and no recurrence of the HUS. The conclusion of the docs is that the raise of the creatine is caused by acute tubular necrosis...a condition that is reversible in most cases. It is probably caused by an infection. So, it is a game of wait and see. Hopefully, I can go home by Monday.

Back to Omaha

Well, I am back in Omaha. Dr. hasn't determined the cause of my elevated creatnine...I will post later when I know something new.

Roller Coaster

That's what I am on. Today the creatinine is up and the white cells up. What does it mean......who knows? I have an appt. in Omaha Friday, so I'll maybe find out. I hope they don't do a biopsy, it is a pain in the butt...you have to lay on you back for several hours without turning.

2/13/07 update

Hi All,
Just a quick update. My creatine has been falling...that is good, but my white cell count is very low. That means I have very little resistance to "bugs" that are going around. I am taking a very powerful antibiotic with an IV pump every day at home...lets hope it does the trick. I am treating another of the "super bugs" that is resistant to most known antibiotics.

Monday update

We are back home as of Sat. Today's tests were good....creatinine was down to 3.2 from 4.2 on Sat.and hemoglobin is looking better so no transfusion. The bladder infection seems to be getting better also. The new drain is doing the trick....hopefully things will settle down now.

Home agian...hopefully

The good news is the tests today were good....and Sat. we should be home. This stay hasn't been bad....after all , I have had all the tests known to man over the last 6 months.
Jim and Bridged and the kids are here visiting as is Christopher my youngest. It has been really nice to see them.

My roomate and I have become good friends...he is 62 years old and grew up in Brooklyn and has retired to Las Vegas. Sandy and Ann, his wife have become friends. I'll sign off for now and hope the next update is from home.
