Lousy News
We recently found out that UNOS (the national organ donor group) turned down our appeal to get a year back on the transplant list. They'd turned us down before but our surgeon wrote a letter and typically his appeals are successful....but not this time. The cut off time on transplant failure is 90 days and the kidney failed at 92 days....and a deadline is a deadline.
I am tremendously upset about this for several different reasons but of course that doesn't do any good. Dan is being the calm, rational one lately. It doesn't seem like any aspect of this transplant has gone well.
It also doesn't help that Dan is having a tough time right now with fluid collecting and pressing on his lungs which causes him to be short of breath. He's also having trouble with "coverage" which is getting all the toxins out of his blood. However, his nephrologist is all over these problems and we have hope that they will be resolved.
Meanwhile Dan is keeping on.... He is taking some of his Civil War collection to Alma High School today to show Christopher's American History classes and give a guest lecture. He's a tough guy.

Glad to hear thet you are getting out with your stuff again, a really interesting part of our history.
Hope that the dialysis is going better and they get you figured out, I knew that you were pretty complex a long time ago. Something that happened at the dump or at Abe's I guess.
Keep your dauber up and will talk with you soon.
Later,

Dan,
Sorry to hear that you got the slow roll getting on the list. Let's just keep on working it day by day, and with a little luck, you'll get the nod soon.
I am in CO now. Last Sat, Mom was out at the crack of dawn, mucking with her flowers and fell...she crawled up on the deck, crawed to the bathroom and then after relieving her self, called the neighbors. She didn't want the EMT so they rolled her up in a blanket and put her in the car....got her hip replaced that night.
As I told my brother, some people's mothers just can't be trusted. I brought her home on Thursday and she is doing very well. Got up from the table today, and got her own coffee!!
We are doing home care, with nurses, pt/ot visiting during the week, I think she will make good progress as she was in good shape before hand.
Let's all keep out gym memberships current, and do your weights, walking, biking: keep the weight off...it really made a difference for her
Take care,
jim feighny
Dan and Sandy........
You might have guessed that we have been gone. I was distressed to read the current blog when we arrived home.
Sorry to hear that you are playing the waiting game...again. Hang in there.

Hi, Dan and Sandy,
So very sorry to hear the news. I guess rules are rules, but two days! We will be hoping for the best for you. It was so good to see you and Sandy at the family reunion. That really was a lot of fun. I received an email from Jetty and Sonia the other day. They arrived safely home and said they really enjoyed the trip to Colorado and are looking forward to a reunion in Belgium in 2010. Amazing how small the world has become.
Well, take care of yourself, Dan, and you too, Sandy. Thanks for keeping in touch.
Cheryl & Jim
